What is the call?

If R2 is on 2b when play began why is she returning to 1st?

Good catch. ASA's web site has it backwards and it has been brought to their attention.

To the play at hand, the Infield Fly is a rule that affects ONLY the batted ball and BR. All other rules (with the exception of an Intentional Drop) are in effect.

In this case, any runner hit by the fair batted ball is out by rule.

Where's the ball in relationship to F4 when the runner returning to 1st makes contact with it? Had it passed the fielder? Your post reads like it hadn't. But consider BretMan's notation about the rule regarding a runner contacting a live ball after it passes a fielder.

I'd rather not as it isn't the play being offered and can get quite confusing with the multitude of possibilities that could occur.

The rhetorical question is directly related of the play being offered!! The position of the contacted ball in relationship to F4 is absolutely material to the call. It's a detail you didn't offer in your OP.

3 outs, inning over ... BR out on infield fly ... R2 was hit by a batted ball and or passed R1 at some point, R1 ran the bases in reverse order ?...

Batter out on IFFR. Runner on first out because she was hit with batted ball (IFFR not dead ball, runners advance at own risk), Runner at 2nd back to 2nd on dead ball.
