NFHS Catch and Carry

R1 on 2. Fly ball to left field. Fielder catches the ball just in foul territory. R1 takes off immediately. Fielder leaves the play field. R1 rounds 3b and goes home.

PU puts runner back on 3b, but was not really clear on why she put runner on 3b.

What do the rules say?

8-4-3-i. If unintentional, 1 base from the last base touched at the time the ball entered dead ball territory. If the runner had not yet reached 3rd when ball was carried out, 3rd is all she would be awarded. If she had touched 3rd by the time the ball was carried out, should be awarded home.

If umpire judged it to be intentional, its 2 bases.
