Infield Fly Rule

Rule question? Get it answered here.

by ice_67 » Mon Jul 14, 2008 5:26 pm

Can a batter be called out by the infield fly rule if the Umps never call it while the ball is in the air? Situation, ASA, less than 2 outs, R1 on 2nd, R2 on first. Batter hits a pop up that could be caught with ordinary effort by F5 or F6, but infielders converage and ball drops and hits the ground. Neither ump said "Infield Fly batter out". F6 finally picks up the ball and then BU calls batter out because of the Infield fly rule.

Yes, infield fly is in effect by rule.. it is not dependent upon an umpire calling it. The umpire made the correct ruling. BU was probably fixing PU's brain fart of not calling it.

wade is correct. IFR is not dependent on an umpire to call it to be in effect.

They are correct, the IFR is still in effect. The umpire should have yelled it as a courtesy to the Base runner!
