Runners on 1st and 2nd. Ground ball to third. 3rd baseman steps on bag(force) throws to 1st, ball goes off 1st baseman's glove and into dugout.

I know batter gets second. What base is runner from 1st base awarded?
In this game, runner from first was allowed to score(said to of had 2nd base before ball entered dugout) and batter to 2nd.

thanks Steve.

2 bases from last base legally occupied at time of throw. If runner had reached 2nd prior to the throw would have been propped award otherwise should only have been 3rd.

The only time the award would be based upon when the ball entered the dugout is if the umpire judged that the 1st baseman had possession of the ball and lost possession resulting in the ball entering dead ball territory.

That does not seem to be the case.

It has nothing to do with if the 1B touched the ball or not. The fact that the ball entered dead ball territory as a result of an action by the defense is grounds for a two base award. The only question is where were the runners at the time of the throw

Well... Yes and no ... the runners are awarded two bases from where they were at the time the ball left F5's hand, if the ball is overthrown into dead ball area ... I think what mgkblue was trying to say was an exception refering to a fielder losing posession of a ball, such as on an attempted tag play, where the ball gets loose and goes into a dead ball area ... In that case ( which doesn't seem to apply here ), the base runners are awarded one base ...

Speaking ASA

Simplest answer, two bases from wherever the runner was standing at the time F5 released the throw. Direction of the runner is irrelevant; Contact with the thrown ball by any other defender short of taking possession is irrelevant.
