Back in 1972 Jack Hawkins, a coach with a vision, created Be The Best, a clinic where baseball and softball coaches gather annually to interact with, learn from and get to know some of the greatest in the game. Each year, Be The Best attracts approximately 2,000 attendees who are interested in honing the craft of coaching. Coaches representing age groups from Little League through college participate in the clinic that includes former pro baseball players and managers, decorated Olympian athletes, college and university coaches and other credible professionals from the worlds of baseball and softball. Guest speakers cover topics on everything from how to build a championship program and create a team culture to pitching mechanics and effective practice drills.
After 42 years, Jack Hawkins sold what it now the longest-running baseball and softball clinic in the country, to Greg and Dan Allen of Bergen County. The entrepreneur brothers, who co-founded Bader Field Sports, LLC, recognize Be The Best to be the perfect leadoff in pursuing their dream of transforming Atlantic City into a world-class sports destination –www.BaderFieldSports.com.
I flew into Philadelphia and shuttled to Harrah’s in Atlantic City where Be the Best is being held. Very nice people everywhere I turn. The hotel staff along with convention goers are all very friendly and excited to be here. Thursday night Be The Best had a meet and greet cocktail party with complimentary drinks and great food! There must have been 300 people maybe more! A lot of youth sport fans with the agenda of helping out today's youth are in attendance at Be The Best, and if like myself you have watched the news lately, you realize how important this is for the field of coaching, mentoring, and team building. Heading to the convention soon, and will be back to report on all the great things happening in the world of softball and beyond!
