There are two committees that select players to compete on USA Softball National Teams – Men’s National Team Selection Committee and the Women’s National Team Selection Committee. These committees work tirelessly throughout the year scouting events across the country in search of the top athletes for national team selection. Committee members can be found at ASA tournaments, ASA National Championships, NCAA tournaments, NCAA Women’s College World Series and many other events.

Once committee members identify potential national team players, these individuals may be invited to participate in tryout camps and from those camps they are selected to represent the United States in international competitions.

The best way to be noticed by members of the selection committees is to compete in high level ASA tournaments and ASA National Championships if you are not currently playing at the collegiate level.

Hmm... According to jmo, 19 of the 20 Junior invitees played PGF last year and the lone exception is Alyssa Rivera.

Junior non-invitees can apply for the tryout camp on Dec 30 - http://usa.asasoftball.com/tryout/USAJrWomens/login.asp. Non-invitees have to cover their own travel expenses. USA Softball covers expenses for invitees.

I also saw a Dec 1 deadline for entering the open tryouts, so I expect those names and any additional invitees should be known soon.

10 players out of the 160 trying out at the JWNT open tryout held last Friday in Clearwater, FL advanced to the JWNT selection camp - http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Softball/News/2016/December/30/Athletes-arrive-in-Clearwater-for-National-Team-Selection-Camps.

The Selection Camps kicked off this morning as over 160 athletes from around the U.S. participated in an open tryout for the 2017 USA Softball JWNT. Athletes participated in position drills, base running, hitting and bunting while being evaluated by members of the WNTSC. Leading the open tryouts were coaches within the USA Softball Women’s National Team Coaching Pool who represent NCAA Division I universities from around the U.S., and included 2017 USA Softball JWNT Head Coach Laura Berg (Corvallis, Ore./Head Coach Oregon State) and 2017 WNT Head Coach Ken Eriksen (Tampa, Fla./Head Coach South Florida). The top athletes from the open tryout received an invitation to participate at the USA Softball JWNT Selection Camp December 31-January 1.
