wast pitch

What's on your mind?

by jeholtkamp » Wed Jun 29, 2016 6:17 pm

Hi my daughter is in 10 mid speed great drop and good change. The couch has her throwing a wast pitch after going 0-2 or 2-2 in the count. I do not see this being done in college. Is this a good idea and why or why not ?
thank

I think she is too young for college and shouldn't wast her time on the couch.

LOL...

So I dont come off as mean...Its 10U ball (I think)...a 10U pitcher has nothing in common with a collegiate pitcher...if shes 10U...she has none of the 'pitches' you reference down pat...

Just play ball please...Its 10U...you have plenty of time for created drama

First thing welcome to Hey Bucket. Second thing always blame auto correct on anything spelled incorrectly.

Now to answer your question, Good 10u coaches normally won't waste a pitch. Most 10u pitchers will throw a change up or outside pitch on 0-2. Since they are 10 it seems like a waste pitch due to most pitchers not mastering control yet (that is why it is 10u). Good luck and never compare 10 year olds to college pitchers!! ;)

Ok she is years old has three pitches change fastball drop and she's working on a curve he's very accurate especially for her age could this be why he's using the waste pitch he throws it between the eyes and the shoulder of the battery inside fastball I know I'm dead and you probably won't believe me but she hits her Spot somewhere between 80% and 90% of the time

Why do you think a "waste pitch" is not done in college?

Throwing a waste pitch at 2-2? I hope you meant 1-2.

The definition of a "waste pitch" varies from a) something so far out of the strike zone nobody will swing at it so you won't give up a hit when way ahead in the count to b) something that may draw a swing however is very difficult to hit and/or sets up the next pitch. Colleges certainly do the latter.

Is "battery" a typo for the batter or are you referring to the catcher? What pitch does he have her throw after that? He may be setting up something low and outside for the next pitch.

Some use waste pitches to change speeds to set up throwing the previous pitch again,
