Metal Cleats in Carry On Bag

What's on your mind?

by Fastpitch4Life » Tue May 24, 2016 7:32 am

I know this question made the rounds in 2012, but coming into tournament season, has anyone had any problems getting through TSA with metal cleats in a carry-on bag?

Thanks!

Recently traveled with my kid for a tournament.

Spikes cannot be in carry on bag. Need to pack with checked luggage.

From the TSA website:

Sports equipment that can be used as a bludgeon (such as bats and clubs) is prohibited in the cabin of the plane and must be transported in your checked baggage.
For sporting goods that are not prohibited, you should check with the airline to ensure that sports equipment will fit in the overhead bin or underneath the seat of the airplane.

Even if an item is generally permitted, it may be subject to additional screening or not allowed through the checkpoint if it triggers an alarm during the screening process, appears to have been tampered with, or poses other security concerns. The final decision rests with TSA on whether to allow any items on the plane.

Which brand of cleats are bludgeons?

We had never heard of box cutters being used either- until they were

Never heard of a chainsaw being used, but they are also banned. Not sure of having to check metal cleats, bats etc qualify as having to "give up their freedom".

My 12 y/o has some pretty big feet and if they keep growing, her cleats will be classified as bludgeoning objects.
