Yeah I guess it's the age old adage...if it looks to good to be true, it probably is.

I can still dream though, right? :)

It's a 6-year contract and I doubt it is guaranteed. She's 30yo now and will/would be 37 at end of it,

I wish them the best and hope it works out for all.

You guys dislike early verbals or dare is say any verbal. Now doubting this...

Meanwhile vast majority of verbals work and don't turn out negative and growth of softball is growing. It's exciting in person and entertaining on TV. Currently, it carries a higher TV rating than baseball, women's basketball and every other NCAA sport not Football or Basketball.

Send a positive message and maybe just maybe this is the start of something for DD's. It is a start and if anything else potential opportunity!

Just sayin...

I think it is great and more importantly that should be a stepping stone and opening doors for other women. We all should hope someday that this sport should grow and it be a great living for the ones that can make it to the NPF.

Not sure how you think one relates to the other. There are young men coming out and saying now that the early recruiting in football (which is nowhere near as early as softball) is a crime.

Sorry 33. This doesn't fit your misguided agenda. If your DD (or anyone's for that matter) is good enough to play professionally their talent will prove out whether they verbal at 11 or 18. And the earlier the verbal the better the chance is they'll burn out IMO.

Man FP you have a one track mind. Absolutely they go hand and hand. It's called opportunity! No matter what it is in all aspects of life not just softball. You've heard of the glass ceiling or maybe you haven't? The more opportunity the better...

I don't care if it's a 1st grader. Helllloooo It's opportunity!

As far as agenda I have none. My DD has her dream opportunity and our family couldn't be happier.

All good here Buddy!

A few of those "opportunities":

- The opportunity to burn out at an early age while you live your parents' dream
- The opportunity to make a decision at a very early age that you will likely regret when you get older
- The opportunity for your dad to walk around in your college gear like a peacock (maybe, if you don't burn out or change your mind or have your mind changed for you)
- The opportunity to have the school pull your verbal because you didn't progress from the player you were at 12 or 13 to the level they hoped at age 17
- The opportunity for you to really look around at different schools and decide which one you would like to attend (oh wait you don't get that one because you were pressured into verballing to 'The state I would never live in' University at 12

And my favorite...
- The opportunity for college coaches to dash a young girl's dreams by pulling her verbal and then spilling crocodile tears while blaming "the system" aka somebody else

33 , what you can't see is that the later verbal actually provides BETTER opportunities.

That said, I do wish your DD and your family the best of luck. Maybe you'll be one of the more fortunate ones.

X2

While Im glad Abbott secured that, its based on numerous conditions...she wont get a million $ check...
And I definitely do not see 'Pro Ball' as a a viable 'career choice' for any of these young ladies for now anyway.
Be monetarily smarter to spend your paycheck buying Lotto tickets than planning on a 'million dollar pro deal'

As far as verbals, and coaches see this...Many pre-adolescent kids are verballing more as a blackmail by orgs..."You'll take this kid OR you wont get ANY more kids from The XXXX org."...
Which.Ive heard D1 coaches use the phrase ...I'll take them, and if they don't work out, I'll cut them...(and seen them do it)
Know a pile of kids who have 'verballed' to a particular school...and once the truth comes out, they've accepted 'books only'...or even nothing...
Know of another school that's a perennial WCWS attendee...Know several of the parents who say its signing with Lucifer and regret every minute of it...the players are miserable...and they WARN folks...But people keep lining up to be there.
