WCWS?

What's on your mind?

NCAA made a commitment to OKC 2 years ago - http://kfor.com/2014/05/29/okc-keeping-womens-college-world-series-for-a-while/.

D-I baseball goes to Omaha every year and that isn't a destination spot either.

OKC has a capacity of 7,300 - I don't know of any other true softball fields that large. D-II and D-III don't have to worry about large crowds...

All valid points-I was just wondering. Any idea how many seats in the former Olympic stadium in Columbus, GA?

Why does the baseball college finals not "borrow" a pro stadium. It would add more buzz .

AL Sits about 4000...not sure what most places sit

OKC is actually a SP field with stands and a temp fence in the OF...

With bleachers, the max is 2000

What IMHO would be neat, and not gonna happen is Find 3 venues that could support the WCWS, a west, central , east...and it be moved each year....temp seating is easily created in most cases...the OF seats in OKC are temps BTW and Im not sure how much that adds to seating capacity...
The time I went to the WCWS, it was like volcano hot, the main stands are concrete and it was like a baking oven...and the outfield , which were the ONLY seats available for purchase...were incredibly hot...especially right field in the afternoon was like sitting in an electric skillet.
However they don't ask my opinion...

What would really cool is if WWOS could have one at Disneyworld...(I love Disney FTR)
Although, June in FLAUSA the weather is a bit...humidish...
But then again...tradition seems to be important to a sport and it will be at ASA park for infinity...

Why don't you google it yourself? That "Olympic stadium" is actually a minor league ball park built in 1951 that was renovated and converted to a softball field for the 1996 Olympics. It seats 5,000 for baseball and would hold more for softball with outfield bleachers.

Why does the baseball college finals not "borrow" a pro stadium. It would add more buzz .

Finding a pro stadium that could accommodate CWS's 12-day schedule would be challenging. Regardless, NCAA made a 25-year commitment to 2035 in exchange for Omaha building the new 24,000 seat stadium.

It's more than creating Buzz... It's a destination... When D1 ball players say OMAHA (Not Peyton!) they think CWS. It provides a great tradition for current and future players. Just as THE BLATT did! It is large enough to hold up to 40 plus thousand which last I checked that's about the number many MLB park are. Not to mention it brings a small boost to local hotels and shops.

Had the honor of attending the opening ceremonies at the new venue TD Ameritrade a few years back. Our boy had a great experience and a lifetime of memories. It's is a great park honoring all the past champions. It is a great spot for the next 60 years just as The Blatt provided years of memories.

No need to change a good thing!

TD park holds 24k( not 40) besides alumni, parents and a few locals- who's going. An ncaa basketball regional( men's or women's) garners more buzz. Damn-even the lacrosse championship is bigger

TD's seating capacity is 24,505 and is reportedly expandable to 35k, however I suspect most of that is via permanent addition (e.g. expanding 2nd tier all the way around the park) and don't know how much is possible temporarily for CWS. Their record high is 28,846 at last year's CWS.

Men's basketball is a major revenue sport, so it is not a relevant comparison. I disagree with the "buzz" garnered overall by the women's regionals.

You're wrong about LAX because D-I only drew 26,749 for the final and 33K combined for the 2 semi's this year. Perhaps you're thinking of when LAX had much more higher attendance - http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2013-06-18/ncaa-is-studying-lacrosse-championship-s-42-attendance-skid.

Congrats to your son's school for getting to the D-III semi's this year - too bad they didn't make it to the finals in Philthy-delphia where the D-I and D-II finals were also held.

Are you an ex-LAX player?
