HS Coach dictating summer play

What's on your mind?

by Sam » Thu Feb 21, 2008 1:59 pm

Have her play ASA. If the HS coach punishes your DD for not playing for him/her:

a) explain why she chose to play for the team that could qualify for ASA Nationals,
b) complain to the AD,
c) sue the HS coach for damages,
d) bend a reporter's ear, or
e) have your DD claim that the coach touched her inappropriately.

Its the american way.

If not...just deal with the consequences of your decision.

This right up there in my Top 10 Highschool coach follies.

I can't wait for travel coaches to start banning players from thier team if they play highschool ball. Now that would be a good idea to most travel coaches, but few to none would ever make that type of demand of thier players.

If your kid has any aspirations of going to college to play softball, then make sure she plays on a travel team with a good coaching staff.

The only caution I would have in telling this coach to shove it, would be if she is dogged about getting her players recruited to college. If she is, then she is a Top coach as you stated. Other than that, her and her school record is only good for her and the schools ego.
