Barring a long run in the NEWMAC playoffs and an unlikely NCAA appearance- We are looking at less than ten games left :( I thought this season would be rather melancholy, but instead it has been one of the more enjoyable seasons I can remember. I am going to more games-will see ALL the remaining and just enjoy. I still love the fact that my daughter Lindsey gets so much joy and is so passionate about playing. I still like the fact she want me to bring her a bottle of gatorade before games and we get to enjoy an Italian Combo between games. I will miss these times, but have no regrets at all. I will miss the games and the anticipation of games too.

For those out there with younger daughters-enjoy the time, it goes way too fast. Enjoy th long car rides and te time spent with your dughter-for they are priceless. I just hope I can hold it together when the end comes...

Bless your heart and good luck to your daughter where her life is beginning again. I hope you stick around the bucket. It's been a pleasure reading about your DD. It seems like just yesterday I was reading about your DD's overnight visit. Just another reminder of how old I'm getting...lol

Yes, don't miss a game. I preach to freshmen parents it feels like it will last forever but you will blink your eyes and be going to senior day. Enjoying your friend's kids is a good plan for avoiding the pain of going cold turkey on softball. If your daughter takes up coaching, that's almost as good as watching her play. Store up the memories, they will last forever.

Thank you for the reminder Jonriv and I hope you will stick around. I've always enjoyed your posts.

I have one who just verballed to a D1 school clear across the county (although she won't be there for a few more years) and still have one in 12's. Whenever I get frustrated about the early morning games, entire days at the fields, my kid making an error or striking out, I think about the amazing journey, all the friends we've made, and their experiences so far and know that it will all come to an end someday, and then what will we do with ourselves?!?

You are so lucky you are close enough to catch her college games!

This weekend, my dd will play her last 4 regular season games. There is a lot riding on those games. Her team, UMSL has qualified for the GLVC Tournament and is nationally ranked #3. In no way does it seem possible that her career will be over within a month. Since I have been a HS coach for so long, my dd grew up in a gym or on a ball field. When she was 7 or 8, she was attending my hitting camps and by the time she was 12, she was hitting 150 balls everyday. Her goal was to make varsity as a freshman. She created a poster for her bedroom wall that said, "The Dream." It was all about softball. So often, other parents talked about how I drove my kid. The reality was that it was just the opposite. She was the one always wanting to hit. I made a video once of her when she was so sick she could hardly move. Still, she had to get in her 150 swings. I sometimes watch it now and will keep it to show her kids someday.

For us, the recruitment process was a nightmare as one coach was telling all of the other schools she had verballed. So, it didn't seem as if there was any interest. Then, one day, we stopped at a OVC school on our way to Chattanooga and that coach told us what others were being told. We took care of that problem and just in the nick of time. My dd finally found the school she wanted to go to. She made her verbal and we are so glad that she did. That has been such a blessing. Coach told her that if she came to his school, she would become the most prolific hitter in the history of that school. With a little luck, that will come true in the next few days/weeks. DD's senior year has been all that she wanted. She set her goal to hit her career 50th home run. She did so last weekend. She has several other records. Now, she wants her team to make it to nationals. That is the one thing she told Coach that she had to do in her college career. I don't know if they will but they have worked hard as a team.

Well, I could go on and on. My dd is already coaching TB in a very good program and wants to coach at either the HS or collegiate level someday. I know she plans to talk to Coach about doing so next spring if there is an opening. My family has been so blessed by the parents and players my dd has played with. She has had tremendous coaches along the way. I was fortunate to be her HS coach and I will forever be thankful for that. As my Dad always says, "The hay is in the barn," Now all that is left for her is to finish the job. Good luck to all of you who have dds who are finishing their careers. I wish the best for all of them.

My dd broke her school's Career Hits Record today. I'm so proud of her. She is playing injured but is one tough kid. Now, we have a day or two to try to get her healthy for conference this weekend. Conference in the GLVC is in Peoria, Illinois. DD's team is the #1 seed.

Lost a close game on Tuesday. This weekend will probably be the end. I expect Lindsey will leave it all on the field and really enjoy. She has already told me what color Gatorade she wants :D

A year away, dreading it, it will be here before we know it.
Enjoy the games! I am sure it has been such a blessing to able to watch your DD play as much you have. We are in the same situation and I am so glad she stayed on the West Coast.
