Hey Umpires????? Where's the zone!

What's on your mind?

by Atindell » Fri Apr 10, 2015 6:48 am

Hey umpires stop squeezing the zone!

I'm not asking for more than calling it the way it is in the rule book. Lately umpires look like they call nothing low and want the whole ball on the plate above the knee and below the elbows. I know that many think it was safer to move pitchers back 3 feet, but that wasn't for pitchers! That was to create more offense and get more long balls. Success!

It has changed so much in the hitters favor that pitchers are in danger now more than they ever were at 40'.

Let's tone down the bats again and call the zone. Sure pitching duels aren't as exciting for the casual fan, but is it worth the risk we are adding to players.

Couldn't agree more!! Pitch counts seem to be full more often then not so it forces pitchers to throw down the middle (big fat cookie) or they give up a walk. Make the batter have to work for crying out loud!

I completely agree. Even if it NICKS the corner, it is still a strike. They are making it WAY too easy for hitters.

Seeing the opposite around here. Very wide zone with many "outside" pitches called strikes

Great Post, and in the spirit of pitcher safety, this has to be taken seriously.

Sounds like the post for Whiney Pitcher Parents :D All I ask of a homeplate ump is consistent calls both ways- players than need to adjust- Usually it is umps that setup on the inside side of the catcher

All year long in our neck of the woods low and outside has been called- while inside is not being called-both hitters and pitchers need to adjust(not argue). Successful hitters and pitchers know how to adjust and adapt-not blame

Ha wait till they get to college and pitch to that shoebox, with coaches picking your grips and begging umpires for an illegal pitch call, and bats that don't get checked anymore, and hitters/coaches that know your pitches and have a game plan versus some random friendly, tons of fun to pitch in college lol

Bats are checked compression wife at the beginning of season and stamped. Check by umps before every game another compression test before conference playoffs and NCAA regionals

Must be happening out of plain sight, because on numerous occasions I've watched umpires walk straight from parking lot to field and not look at one bat.
