Time for rule change?

What's on your mind?

by AlwaysImprove » Thu Apr 09, 2015 3:49 pm

I have not heard of anyone else rocking the hand fastened toe flap.

Not sure about nipping it in the bud either. That ruling seems to be a bit narrow and focus in on hand fastened toe flaps. It seems to leave open if someone actually 'manufactures' a shoe that has a toe extender. But that is the nature of these type of equipment rules. They often seem to leave open a few possible scenarios, but once the main ideas are established people mostly just obey the rules.

Hell no on the change..................

I spent years teaching my daughter the correct way after she was doing it wrong. She had a great Crow Hop and got called for it regularaly. Worked her tail off to fix it and ticks me off everytime I see an umpire ignore it. Listen a rule is a rule and why the Hell is someone teaching them wrong. While your at it lets say you don't have to touch all the bases if it it wasn't an advantage. I mean if you only missed it by a little it's the same as touching it right?

I disagree that it isn't an advantage too. The closer you get the shorter the reaction time is. I am estimating but every foot is equivalent to approximately 1.5 mph if throwing 60mph. (I'm sure I'll be corrected). If you don't have to keep that back foot on the ground you can leap further, and who wouldn't want to leap out 6 feet, replant and start the pitch from there.

UMPIRES!!!!! Call it!

A crow hop, or replant, can get you another foot closer.

So a 60 mph fastball released at 39 feet will allow the batter .4432 seconds to get the bat to the ball. A leap allows .4375 seconds and a crow hop allows .4318 seconds.

Not a great advantage, but an advantage nonetheless.

That said, I think they should be allowed to throw under the same rules as the men, who are allowed to leap.

Wasn't there a "prevent injury to the pitcher" element when this rule was created?

Ten years down the line, women's fp better off having had the leap rule or no? And why?

I guess no replies validates my thought. Leap is a rule with no point at all.

Guilty of not reading full thread text.

Would not mind leap rule changed.
My reasoning would be that batters are getting better and more effective.
Leaping will not delay game, it will help keep up the fast pace of FB.
The pitcher and the new angles in which the ball travels will challenge batters.
It is not of desperation for pitchers, it is more the opportunity to pitchers.
Field grooming in the circle will take less time and attention, shoes with torn toes will save money, the game will not slow due to illegal hop or runner advancement.
I see the positives.
I see further, because I stand on the shoulders of giants

Seriously? More likely no one saw your question with the requisite experience to provide an informed opinion.
