Curious as to the average speeds your pitchers throw by age group

what should be expected at the plate not the release. I have 2 9yr olds and they are in the high 30's low 40's

10U?

12U?

14U?

14U - Average speeds for MOST range between 52 mph and 56 mph, the better pitchers I would say between 55 and 60 but you see more of the lower than you do the higher unless you are facing high quality pitching.....Ball spin and movement are more important than anything no matter what speed you throw!!

First year 10u: any speed consistantly in the strike zone.

Second year 10u: good pitchers are throwing 50+ mph; "average" velocity is less.

First year 12U: low 50s.

Second year 12u: Mid 50s; good pitchers will be in the high 50s and hitting the low 60s by nationals.

First year 14U: Mid 50s to low 60s.

Second year 14U: most are in the high 50s or low 60s.

That link has slower speeds than I've seen posted on this (and other) boards when this question was asked, but I'm of the thinking that some people are referring to a pitcher's "best" speed rather than their average speed.

good point, and alot of times the actual speed is slower than the perceived speed.
Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

I wonder how come we see a whole lot of high 50's and very low 60's at 18Gold...maybe our seniors should be playing 14U?????

The rule change to 43' at 16U will effectively move everybody up one age group....there will be no older 14U's....older 12's will be playing with first year 14U's, etc.

I always find it interesting to hear about how fast all these younger kids throw. But if you look at all the results from all the NFCA and other camps that publish the pitching speed results, you see a very small percentage who actually throw over 60 and the majority of the kids are 18U or at least 16U. I know there are a lot of kids who do throw in the 60s, we have 4 of them playing for us, but the majority, of the one's who participate in the camps at least, seem to be in the 55-58 range.

"The rule change to 43' at 16U"

Did I miss something? I thought 18A just went to 43'

It was originally proposed as 14U-18G, but only passed for 16's-18's.
