Please remember that this was a showcase and many teams did not play their top lineup. Of course, there were several teams that felt this was a national championship and coached and played it as such. For example, there was a coach who went to the umpire because a team batted 11 players and had the "11th" girl called out when she reached 1B (he was winning 4-0 at the time). The rules called for only 10 batters but no one cared except this one coach because he was just playing to win. What a knucklehead
Not really sure what the pertinence of this statement is. Me and my DD watched this game because she had several friends on "The Knuckleheads" team. This was a highly hyped up game at the complex. Largely, because BOTH teams were loaded with rosters of committed players. Rules are rules, whether or not they agree to popular opinion of what a showcase should be. Besides from where I stood the girl who was removed got on base via a dropped third strike, not like it was a hit stolen away from her.
Incidentally, for those who may not understand the East Coast teams play more to win because the season is much shorter than it is for Southern and Western teams, rosters are much smaller too so less players to get into games. They can't play Friendlies into January like the warmer areas do. FWIW the CA team in this game had the best lineup I saw the whole weekend.
