130' fence in 12U?

What's on your mind?

by Judd » Sun Apr 13, 2008 3:13 pm

We played a game today where the other team got a grand slam over a 130' fence.

Didnt really make a difference as we lost 5-0.

But what would be the proper way to address the short fence? I thought maybe before the game the coach should have said something? BTW the fence was only 130, from CF to RF. The LF fence was 180, but I guess to get the field in they cut across right field as there is a drop behind it and a pavillion. Maybe the pavillion was there first.

Pitch the hitters to hit to LF and have some jokes about the short porch in RF? Sounds like a neat setup. I wouldn't want to play on a field like that every day, but once in awhile it's good to have a field with some quirks in it (or "charm," as the host would tell you).

The fence was the same length for both teams. You might have tried some interesting defensive shifts - moving F9 to the infield and creating a 5th infielder comes to mind. It wouldn't have helped with your GS, but perhaps the bases wouldn't have been loaded with this kind of shift.
