Scorebook question

What's on your mind?

by Bruwinfan » Sat Mar 29, 2008 7:57 pm

What is the correct scoring of the following play?

Runner on 3rd, batter walks, and continues running on to second. The catcher throws the ball to the pitcher in the circle, who throws to second, but the batter-runner slides in safe. The scoring as I would understand it is that since the pitcher made the attempt at the batter runner, she receives credit for a "stolen base"....but had the pitcher not made a play (perhaps more concerned about the runner at 3rd), then its indifference and there is no credit for the stolen base.....can anyone respond whether this is correct or what the correct ruling is? Thanks!

That's the way I would score it.

So if she does not get credit with a stolen base because of the "indifference" does that also apply when the catcher does not throw down to 2nd when the base runner is stealing from 1st with a runner at 3rd because of the indifference ? :ugeek:
