how do you get those action shots?

What's on your mind?

by DonnieS » Sun Mar 16, 2008 7:52 pm

What I did is I bought 1st a $200 digital, then a $300, then a $400, then a $500 digital, etc. each one pretty good, but not good enough. So I would get the next one. Dont be afraid of the nice SLR's - they have a button that is called Auto (french for 'use this button if you dont know anything about camera settings') - and that button turns the camera into a point and shoot which you can use until you finally sit down and rtfm (read the .... manual).

By the way, had I bought the Canon 40d up front with the lens, I would have been ahead about 500 bucks.

As an FYI... IMHO, last years technology is g-r-e-a-t !!!

I bought a Canon 30D SLR, considered "old" because the 40D is out. There is probably a new whizbang 50D somewhere by now. Regardless, you can get them for 1/3rd of what was the original price and, when introduced, were considered the greatest thing since sliced bread and canned beer.

Buying the newest thing out carries a premium. My 30D will last many, many years and, although it is not a fashionable, super high tech, this months current fad, the most premium unit on earth, it works very, very well.

enjoy

>> Canon 30D SLR, <<

I just looked it up - retail down from 2100 to 759 (amazon.com) and it can shoot at 5 fps - that is big deal. Definitely something to think about.

just like buying a computer...todays "must have" is tomorrows "half-off"...the xtl is fast enough to get 4-5 pixs during a pitchers windup or a betters swing (timed correctly) for a lower end costs...30d, 40d, 5d, etc can be overkill unless your making $$...the best bang for your buck is always gonna be the lens...unless your in the dugout, your gonna want that min 200+ zoom to get up close and personal...the expression are priceless...

Yep, if you could time it correctly, the faster fps is a non-issue. The fast fps is also handy when a play is going on, like the fielder is going after a ball, dives, comes up with it and throws it. Unfortunately every time my kid does that, I am standing there staring at the action, thinking - wow, wish I had a picture of that - and then I realise...
