Pitch for contact or pitch for strikeout?

What's on your mind?

by eddiez577 » Thu Sep 27, 2018 8:44 am

New convo of the day;

What's better; pitch for contact or pitch for strikeout? Greg Maddux type vs. Nolan Ryan type, in fastpitch softball context of course (43ft mound, 60 foot bases, skinned infield, 225ft outfield wall, 30ft backstop, ghost bats).

Go...

Depends on the pitcher and the lineup being faced?

Save the arm pitch for contact!!! Strikeouts are nice, but they take more out of you and if you have a solid D then pitch for contact let them work.

Seen very successful college k pitchers

I have seen successful college contact pitchers

I have seen both types get smoked by certain lineups

All depends on the pitcher and/or the lineup

True they will make errors but by that logic.... All hitters will strike out and all K pitchers will miss their spot and give up a jak, EVENTUALLY!! I've played 3rd base behind both types of pitchers and most good contact pitchers don't get hit that hard. Most are pretty consistent and can throw multiple games with relative ease, Whereas K pitchers when they miss your getting a missile in your direction more chance of error and they usually gas out after a game. K pitchers are awesome to watch but there is something to be said for the "no frills Nancy's" that just pitches to get the ball in play....

"no frills Nancy's"
:lol:
Seen big bat Bertha get frustrated with Nancy's pitching only to hit a light dribbler to simple second-base Susan for a 4-3 out :lol: Didn't even bother to run to the bag 8-)

The more chances they get the more errors they have a chance to make but the fewer chances they see the more errors they are likely to make.
