Tis the season

What's on your mind?

It is that time of the year where the blue shirts embarrass the sport on national TV.

Yup. The networks are not utilizing the strike box just to keep the embarrassment to a minimum, and slow motion replay on obvious blown calls because it is just bad TV and it may negatively affect ratings and sponsorship.

...sorta like when summer hit, go to the beach...and show the Man boobs off...aka Moobs...
This year I was watching LSU play and their lead off was obviously like 3 feet outside the box slapping...
The announcer stated , "she was out of the box and according to the new rules, she should be called out"...
IMMEDIATELY a hush fell over the TV...and when he came back, he changed the subject...
I loved it when the 'box' was on TV...and a ball damn near off screen was called a strike, dependent on which leaper / replant chunked it...

The Aggies just got screwed by the blue vs Fla. OBVIOUS catch on a line drive by the third baseman with a DP at first. SMH

When it comes down to it. The umpires are not full time umpires. They have other jobs. What they make umpiring softball is not enough to live on. As far as I know there is no annual training and review process like the MLB umpires have to make sure the game is called to a certain standard across the board. Even with all that they still use replay to get the calls right.

There you go, defending one of our favorite straw men. You'd probably defend all the daddyball coaches out there too wouldn't you?

In all seriousness, it would be nice if they had some kind or review process in place. It wouldn't have to be as elaborate, time consuming and expensive as what MLB does with their umpires but enough to hopefully get some kind of a consistent standard. I'd also like to see limited use of reply to keep bad calls from deciding who keeps playing and who goes home.

Replay- Review of Umpires?!
Thats just asking another entity to hold a standard and enforce it. more rules. more standards. That will have its limits also.
Imo umpires bad opinions/decisions only influence a small percentage of the game/season. For instance, Home Plate umpire can have their strike zone bounce around the whole game, it's really up to the batter's to do their job and the pitchers to make the ball move. you can complain about it, but it is what it is for both teams! every team has their share of calls that go for them or against them and when looking at an entire season, every team shares that percentage.

how about you get to pick the umpire's you want to umpire your game....huh....wonder if that happens in college...

I'm watching the UCLA vs Florida game - two great teams; the blues - a comedy of errors
A strike zone that is all over the place
Almost every pitch a crow hop - only one illegal pitch called lol
Out of position blue - she's out at home

it is only the 4th inning

The odds of a blue changing a bad call are the same odds of getting an invitation to come back to Heybucket to hear your version of wisdom.
