What's on your mind?

Coaches, what do you do with toxic players who create drama and throw off the dynamics of the team?

You have a discussion with the player and make them aware of their behavior. You tell them the ramifications if they continue to behave in this manner. Hold the player accountable if they continue or praise them if they change their behavior.

Agree! after discussion with parents and player, if know no improvement.

healthy dynamic =
better experience !

while cutting a player seems to create or be drama, it's really just pulling weeds from the garden!

I agree with all said by Sam, Turbo & JR ... In my experience, with this generation, a shot over the bow does not work like it used to ... In general, talking seldom works even though it should (or could) be the first course of action ... What speaks volumes is when they see you will not make idle threats and your rules, or being a good team mate are not negotiable ... I have used short suspensions with some success, but nothing works like "your cut, but welcome to tryout next year" ... You earn the respect of the remaining twelve and if your lucky dislodge the head out of the rectum of one.

What if said toxic player is the high school coach's favorite, so not only does he allows it but encourages it to continue by taking zero action? Going to the AD doesn't help, because the coach lies through his teeth. Parents see it, players see it, other teams and coaches see it. Oh, said toxic play plays every inning, every game, misses practices, and is batting less than 100 this season. Her mom is the team mom, just as toxic and offensive as the daughter. Players are quitting midseason. Suggestions?

Welcome to the Bucket. I'm guessing that 75% of the people reading this who have daughters playing HS ball are trying to figure out which parent you are on their DDs team.
