Playing in Hot Weather

What's on your mind?

Camp in AZ, my DD put on catching gear in 114 degrees, other girls didn't want to catch, so she caught for both teams in the scrimmage. This summer has been brutal. many games games caught in 100 degrees.

DD caught 10 games in in 5 days straight while in Irvine, CA two weeks ago at Champions Cup in weather that exceeded 115F. What got her through it was pre hydrating prior to the days event as well as proper nutrition and no BS rest. Also, my DD team hosted the PGF qualifier in Menifee (not Hemet) at Wheat Field where not one but two Umpires went down. Hell, last year had a blue call "Play Ball" and before pitch was thrown, we had to remind him to put on his mask! (He was a little bit out of it).

What kind of team carries only one catcher? Especially during summer tournament season?

What parent come on and posts the info likes it a badge of honor and a good thing. Like parents that tell us little suzy pitched 5 games in a weekend tourney

Huh? Googled hottest recorded temperature in Irvine California and it said 111 degrees in a past September. It may have been hot there, but the hottest recorded day this July was 108. that's still pretty hot . looking back this july it was between upper 90s and 102 for several days. think the poster was trying to comment that if you stay hydrated it's okay.

very different heat than going back to Georgia, Ohio, Florida where you have 100° temperature and 80% humidity now thats sweltering!

heat index rules established controlling heat & athletes is part of high schools and collegiate ball. But no guidelines in place that I've heard of for
Travel venues? anyone else heard of games being cancelled from Heat or heat index?
Or any standards in other parts of the nation.?

Uhhhh, don't exaggerate, it was a 115 in the Inland Empire/ San Gabriel Valley Area during Champions Cup. Irvine is near the coast and was upper 80's ( felt down right chilly compared to my house just 45 minutes away.)

i have heard of tournaments in Las Vegas and Arizona have ing games only at night to avoid the severe heat.. Heat with humidity here in the east is bad, but at least you are aware of the heat(sweating) It still amazes me how a dry heat can sneak up on you!

College Station, TX. 2010 or 2011 I think. It was so hot they cancelled all of the day games, and we were playing games at 3am, when it was only 102 or so, with like 99% humidity. Brutal.

But the worst weather ever was some random tournament we played up in Palmdale, CA. 40 degrees, with like 40+ mph winds. Fly balls to center were literally blowing foul. So I think we went undefeated on Saturday and were feeling great about our chances. Then came the weather, and the first elimination game on Sunday morning. We wind up in this epic 0-0 extra-innings slug-fest. A game that seems like it will never end. Everyone in the stands is layered to the nines but still freezing to death (I have no idea how the girls were dealing with it). Anyway, the long and short of it is that we lost, and it's the only time everyone was like "praise Jesus, let's get the F out of here!" We were gone by 10am. I think the championship was decided well after dark that night. Can't imagine what that day was like for the teams that made it that far.

A team that lost two catchers due to severe illness and one to a serious collision in Colorado... Hey, new to this posting about my kid thing, so relax a bit shall we? Not used to the tough guy responses, so really not just sure how to respond other than I was impressed with those who play through adversity.
