Playing in Hot Weather

What's on your mind?

by jonriv » Sat Mar 24, 2018 10:51 am

This is for you Turbo!

What is the hottest your daughter played in?

For us it was the summer of 2010, NSA championship in Rock Hill, SC end of July. Weather hovered around 100 degrees with almost equal humidity. Felt like hitting a wall when leaving hotel. DDs team played 4 games in a losers bracket run. Lost in the 4th game by blowing a six run lead. Team made a bunch of unusual errors(not the norm) and melted in the heat. We then travelled to Myrtle Beach for a TCS World Series. The 90 degrees there seemed cool

July 2014, Cow Town, CA (aka Sacramento). Blistering hot all week. One game with around a 7pm start time due to games running long, the temp was 111 degrees,. Girls were dropping all over the place. Our number 1 pitcher went down in that first game and my DD ended up finishing that game and going in the next game. She looked dead on her feet and had nothing left, so it was actually kind of good that we got run ruled.

heat rules/restrictons were implemented few years back in high school and NCAA levels. When the heat index is too extreme. temperature + relative humidity.
Wonder if/when that
may cross over to travel ball and other club sports?
Anyone hear of tb games being cancelled due to heat?

2005 in AZ somewhere, my daughter was playing in a tournament for her team
Gordon's Panther's. It was 8 pm and STILL 90 DEGREES!
All I could think about was if we lost, we could all go home. But if we won,
we had to play again the next morning! When we won I just about cried
and not happy tears either! lol

I'm a bad softball mom :D

As the 20th century philosopher/kings duo Frey/Henley put it... "you can checkout anytime you want, but you can never leave..."

You've got too much good stuff to just ride into the sunset...
