Cheering is annoying.

To some. Some like it. Some can get energized by it. Some can stay focused by it

Cheering if it is spontaneous and heartfelt is great. Unfortunately too many times it is used to taunt and intimidate opponents and/or used by coaches to see "who's head is in the game" of those on the bench. I agree with G that in most case it is just annoying and many case painful to the ear.

Yes, I can see how "wiggle wiggle wiggle, Ashley hit a triple" could keep you focused on the real game ... LMAOWIOAB! ...

I am not referring to 'chatter' which could be or often is spontaneous and heartfelt rooting on a team mate ... When I say that cheering is annoying I am referring to the pianola of mindless high pitched yapping that borders on verbal interference and USC . ... And "painful to the ear" - LMAOWIOAB!

Definition of the word cheer
-shout for joy
-give encouragement
-give comfort
-support to another

All good things!

To the DadD's here, try focusing on the Positive that will help you get over what annoys you!
Yes it is a proven teaching resource that when people are verbally engaged in what they are doing they are mentally engaged as well!

Sending out a Cheer...
BOOM you go DadD's & MomD's ! thanks for supporting your daughters
and your contributions to softball!

Could you please cite some examples of your "shouts for joy" ?

One cheer I enjoyed from my sisters 80s Bobby Sox days:

Our team is red hot, your team is dead shot.

Our team is on the ball, your team needs Geritol.

Not a sip, not a swallow, but the whole darn bottle!!
