Inappropriate Music

What's on your mind?

by hugedaddy » Mon Mar 23, 2009 7:11 am

I am looking for some opinions on the playing of music at tournaments.
1) Do you think that teams should be allowed to play LOUD music between innings of their games. The reason for asking is because in most settings the fields are close together and the music bleeds over to the other games going on. I think it can be very distracting and detrimental.
2) What is your opinion of playing songs like "Soulja Boy" at these tournaments? For the uninitiated, Soulja Boy refers to a part of the anatomy our daughters don't have.
I can't believe I hear it being played all the time by 10U-12U teams between innings and before and after games. We are talking about young girls listening to these lyrics:

Hey I got a new dance fo y'all called the "Soulja Boy"

Soulja boy off in this hoe
Watch me crank it
Watch me roll
Watch me crank dat soulja boy
Then super man dat hoe
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
[X2]

Soulja boy up in this hoe
Watch me lean and watch me rock
Super man dat hoe
Then watch me crank dat robocop
Super fresh, now watch me jock
Jocking on them haters man
When I do dat soulja boy
I lean to the left and crank dat thang
(Now you! )
 I'm jocking on you bitch ass
And if we get the fightin
Then I'm cockin on your bitch ass

You catch me at you local party
Yes I crank it everyday
Haters get mad cause
I got me some Bathing Apes

Soulja boy off in this hoe
Watch me crank it
Watch me roll
Watch me crank dat soulja boy
Then super man dat hoe
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
[X2]

I'm bouncin on my toe
Watch me super soak that hoe
I'ma pass it to Arab
Then he gonna pass it to the low (low)
Haters wanna be me
Soulja boy, I'm the man
They be lookin at my neck
Sayin it's the rubber band man (man)
Watch me do it (watch me do it)
Dance (dance)
Lets get to it (lets get to it)
Nope, you can't do it like me
Hoe, so don't do it like me
Folk, I see you tryin-a do it like me
Man that shit was ugly

Soulja boy off in this hoe
Watch me crank it
Watch me roll
Watch me crank dat soulja boy
Then super man dat hoe
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
[X2]

All too clean off in dis hoe
Watch me crank it watch me roll
Watch me crank dat Roosevelt den supa soak dat hoe (yuuuuh)
Super soak dat hoe (super soak dat hoe)
Super soak dat hoe (super soak dat hoe)
Super soak dat hoe (super soak dat hoe)

All too fresh off in this bitch
Watch me shuffle watch me jig
Watch me crank ma shoulda work
Then superman that bitch (you)
Superman that bitch (superman that bitch)
Superman that bitch (superman that bitch)
Superman that bitch (superman that bitch)
(Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh yuuuuuuuuh)

Soulja boy off in this hoe
Watch me crank it
Watch me roll
Watch me crank dat soulja boy
Then super man dat hoe
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
Now watch me do
(Crank dat soulja boy)
[Chorus x2]

[Verse 2]
I'm bouncin' on my toe
Watch me super soak that hoe
I'm gonna pass it to Arab
Then he's gonna pass it to don loc (loc)
Haters wanna be me
Soulja Boy, I'm the man
They be looking at my neck
Says there's no rubber band man (man)
Watch me do it (watch me do it)
Dance (dance)
Leg it to (leg it to)

I think the playing of music during games should be banned at tournaments.

Only run into this one time at a tournament. We were in the midst of a game and a team warming up nearby had a box blaring something or other.

I asked the coach if he could turn it down as it was distracting our players. He complied without incident.

Regardless of the particular song or music. I don't believe it's appropriate to blast a radio while games are being played.

Wow, nice lyrics...really...
I have a 12 U who plays up ,and we hear this all the time. Not trying to be a prude but when you go to these Tourneys you should expect to learn some good as well as be exposed to some less then diserable behavior..part of the territory. No you do not have to condone it but as far as that goes ,you can teach your kid what you think is acceptable and unacceptable public behavior, that is our choice. We just do not impose our beliefs and choice on others even when they do act annoying and tasteless to our account. Not saying to walk away but don't get stupid next thing you'll be burning books at the library..Censorship is a great tool.personally i believe it should be done at home,so i can turn up my music." True Playa!!!" Make the choice on your own teach it to your own and don't impose it on others. As long as you and yours knows better then you should be happy.

Used to run into a local team here that played music off a little iPod or something on a pretty decent speaker. Good sound, kids liked it, and even the parents got into the groove, but I have to agree that having it spill over into other games just made it wrong.

Never mind the crappy lyrics - that's a whole different discussion. You have to respect the other games going on and with the close proximity to others, it just doesn't work...

All your daughters probably have that song on their Ipod or Super Phone anyway....

You are not going to be able to save them from that music.

Nobody is saying anything about censorship. However discrimination--the ability to differeniate between quality and trash--is one of the highest human functions. There is absolutely nothing wrong with treating trash like trash. The very reason we have "music" like that now is because we, as a society, stopped doing that.

Rewind a few generations and you would catch a beating for playing something like that around other peoples' kids.

Bull shit. If the low lifes want to wear head phones and listen to that trash, go for it. But I dont want to - thats not censorship - thats called manners and consideration. I know, I know, but both words are in the dictionary.
